Step 1

Starting on the LEFT hand side and measuring UP from the window sill. Use a tape measure to determine the fitting location of your shelf. Mark location(s)on the window frame.

DO NOT OBSTRUCT WINDOW CATCH!

Step 2

Transfer measurements from the LEFT hand side over to the RIGHT hand side. Mark corresponding location(s) on the window frame.

Step 3

Using a small posidrive screwdriver, fit the safety rail support clips into the pre-drilled holes on the top of each bracket.

Step 4

Offer each bracket up to its intended location. Make certain that the brackets back edge is in full contact with the window frame AND that its rear face is in full contact with the wall.

Check for obstructions. If your window has a beading strip or plastic trim covering the join between the window frame and wall, it may interfere with correct fitting.

Step 5

Remove section by marking the top and bottom of the bracket against the trim. Use a craft knife or wood chisel to cut away this section.

Recheck to make sure that the bracket properly locates against BOTH the window frame AND the wall.

Step 6

Hold the bracket securely in its installation location. It is important to always drill through the bracket and into the wall - in this way the bracket acts as both a template and a drill guide.

Step 7

Use an 8mm masonry bit to drill through the bracket fixing point. Take care to keep the drill perpendicular to the wall.

Total drilling depth (including the bracket) should not exceed 110mm.

Brush away drilling debris from the drill site, wall and bracket.

Step 8

Apply two 5mmbeadsof Instant Grab adhesive to the back of each bracket.

Step 9

Holding the bracket in position locate the frame fixing screw into the drill hole then tap into position making sure that the bracket remains properly located flat against the wall and in contact with the window frame.

Step 10

Tighten the frame fixing screw using a posidrive screwdriver.

Clean off any excess Instant Grab adhesive before it dries.

With the brackets now installed it's time to fit the aluminium components.

If you have used our Custom Cutting service, move ahead to step 12.

Step 11

Once fitted, measure between the brackets at the position shown.

Cut each aluminium slat 0.5cm longer than this dimension.

Cut the aluminium rear safety rail 1cm longer than this dimension.

Aluminium components can be cut with a handsaw fitted with a metal blade or with a suitable power tool:

  • Make sure components are held securely whilst cutting.
  • Use a mitre box or cutting guide to keep the cut ends square.
  • Take appropriate safety precautions when cutting or handling.
  • Smooth off sharp edges using a metal file or course sandpaper.

Step 12

Install the aluminium slats by first inserting the LEFT slat end into the LEFT hand bracket body. This achieved by raising the other end of the slat as illustrated.

Next, lower the RIGHT slat end into the appropriate slot in the RIGHT hand bracket.

Finally, attach the rear safety rail into the clips on each bracket.

Step 13

Ensure each slat is positioned fully into the right hand bracket and then fit the cover plate.

Step 14

Fit the security warning label on to the rear face of the rear-most slat so that it faces outward.
